During the month of February, C.H.A.I.L.I.S families have shown us extraordinary strength.
The donations the Sunraysia community provide are vital to fund specialized equipment and financial aid when there are no other services available. We aim to ease some of the financial burden our families face in an extremely difficult period of their life. C.H.A.I.L.I.S prides itself on provide finiacial support in a timely manner, right when families need it most.
Piper’s new bed was delivered this month to her family home. The bed is designed to help keep Piper safe at night and allow her, and her family, to get a good nights rest! Wakefield Transport, Nangiloc Colignan Farms, MFC- Mildura Fruit Company and C.H.A.I.L.I.S teamed up to fund the life changing bed that is padded around the sides to keep her safe during seizures and help her get in and out of bed. Piper gratefully accepted her new bed with her classic beautiful smile that could win over anyone’s heart. Piper is a delightful eight year old with an undiagnosed condition that causes severe seizures, however this does not get in her way of lighting up any room she enters.
Young William has spent some time in hospital after he stopped breathing following a series of seizures. An ambulance was called to the family home for emergency management to restart William’s breathing. This was an unimaginably challenging time for his family. They showed us the true meaning of courage.
Matthew has been in hospital for over seven weeks. Sixteen year old Matthew, had a medical episode on Christmas day and has been in the Adelaide hospital ever since. The four-hour Mildura to Adelaide trip is a long one. Matthew’s family has been travelling back and forth to spend time with their angel. They continue to inspire us everyday with their strength. John has tirelessly been collecting donations from the community at Big W throughout the month to help with some of the travel expenses and the general cost of living when you are spending weeks on end in a hospital.
February also means it is time to get back to school!! School supplies are a huge expense for any family. However, it is extra tough trying to find moeny for school supplies in the budget whilst managing the health of a child. C.H.A.I.L.I.S does its best to lift some of this burden.
Lachlan was born with West syndrome, causing seizures that are extremely difficult to control. Lachlan is an active little boy who could run faster than most adults! He loves to climb and run. Due to Lachlan’s age and condition, Lachlan does not always understand danger and is still learning about language and following instructions. Last year he scaled a fence and was badly burned by fire. Whilst Lachlan was treated for burns, his doctors were deciding on the best management for his seizures. They queried and intensive operation that would mean Lachlan would be in the Royal Children’s hospital for at least three months. Therefore, the family were required to take the six-hour journey from Mildura to Melbourne multiple times a month. Despite this, Lachlan’s cheeky grin and happily infectious personality rubs off on anyone he meets.
As Lachlan is getting older, he is getting stronger, smarter and quicker. Lachlan’s family have already had a fence put up around their property to keep Lachlan safe. However, the family are greatly in need of a specialized fence to allow him to play outdoors without having to be in arms reach of a family member. The Sunraysia community have already generously offered support to construct the fence. Yet, we need more support! If you are a jack of all trades of have some experience in putting up fences – we urge you to get in contact with us!! We are also requiring a donation of materials. We would love to hear from you if you could help!
The C.H.A.I.L.I.S team cannot thank the Sunraysia community enough for their support. Donations are required to allow C.H.A.I.L.I.S to continue to support our families when they need it most.
